I'm Hollis Varden. I write about PostgreSQL performance, and I only write down numbers I got by running something.

That is the whole rule for this site:

• Every number comes from a run on a real PostgreSQL instance, not from memory or from someone else's post.
• Each post says which version, which machine, and which settings.
• Each post links the script that produced the numbers, so you can run it yourself.
• If I didn't test something, the post says so.
• If a number turns out to be wrong, I correct the post and say what changed.

I use Claude, an AI model, to help draft the text. The measurements, the checking, and the decisions about what to publish are mine.

I also wrote Postgres Performance, Measured and a few other books in the same style.

This site sets no cookies and runs no ad or tracking scripts.
